Eclipse Child - A composite made from a portrait of my neighbour's grand-daughter and a shot of the solar eclipse in 2006 as seen from Side in Turkey. The landscape is extracted from an earlier photograph which I took on the 20th of June 2001 when our Eclipse Chasers group drove from Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe to Landless Corner in Zambia and our bus had to stop at the roadside because of a flat tyre. I borrowed a camera from Laura Schoenfelder's mother and went out and took this picture of the sunset over the railroad tracks between Pemba and Chisekesi in Zambia.
Though suffering from one of the highest rates of HIV infections worldwide and an ever struggling economy, Zambia's population is still far better off than the people of its southerly neighbour. There is no civil war going on in Zambia and hence no food and medical crisis, so tourists are still welcome here.
