Binoculars rule - better than an extra set of clothing. One can buy extra T-shirts and so forth while at the eclipse. I know people who have packed only old clothing, tossing it once used, and bought new clothing (mostly commemorative shirts) - just so long as the new stuff helped in packing the optics.
